Courts of General Jurisdiction

During 2000, the total number of filings in the state's trial courts marked a slight increase over the 1999 caseload. Filings declined in juvenile, probate and chancery cases, but increased in civil and criminal cases. The combined filings of criminal, civil, chancery, juvenile and probate cases increased from 182,985 in 1999 to 184,799 in 2000. With a total of 110 circuit, chancery and circuit-chancery judges, the number of filings per judge totaled 1680.

Trial Courts Chart
Arkansas trial courts terminated 174,816 cases in 2000, an increase of less than 1% from the 174,574 terminations in 1999. The number of cases pending, however, grew to 176,139 from the 1999 level of 166,228.

The disposition rate compares the number of terminations to the number of filings. The disposition rate for all courts of general jurisdiction was 94.5%, an average of 1589 terminations per judge.
